Just when you thought breakouts on your face were over – you’re hit with a condition that tends to affect adults. Rosacea is a skin disease that causes redness and pimples to form on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. For some, the redness comes and goes. Others battle the condition on a more aggressive level.

Rosacea is a disorder linked to the enlargement of blood vessels found just under the skin. This is why people with very fair skin that blush easily are more likely to suffer the condition. Rosacea is more common in women, but the symptoms tend to be much worse in men. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but doctors have pinpointed factors that can trigger the condition, such as the environment, alcohol, and certain foods.
The first symptom that emerges with rosacea is red cheeks, which some people easily dismiss as windburn or sunburn. Later on, pimples and hard red bumps start to appear. The skin on your face can become quite dry. The redness continues to linger and the symptoms get worse. Sometimes, it can spread to other parts of the face. The disease also has the ability to cause burning and soreness of the eyes and eyelids.
